Smoke Testing
What is smoke testing?
If you are related with software development, you probably heard about: Smoke testing, its a testing technique that refers to a preliminary and basic level of testing aimed at quickly determining if the essential functionalities of a software application are working correctly, normally a minimal set of test cases is executed to "smoke out" major defects or issues in the software or website.
The primary objective of smoke testing is to verify that the critical components or core features of the application are operating without encountering major errors or crashes. Smoke testing acts as a gatekeeper, ensuring that the application is stable enough to proceed with further, more comprehensive testing phases.
Areas to focus when smoke testing?
Core Functionality:
Focus on the site / software Core Functionality, test the essential and primary functionalities of the application to ensure they are working as expected. These are the basic or primary features that the application must perform to provide value to its users.
User Authentication and Access Control:
Verify that users can log in and access the appropriate areas of the application based on their roles and permissions.
Data Input and Output:
Test data entry and retrieval processes to ensure that data can be successfully stored and retrieved from the database or external sources.
