What to consider when performing SEO Quality Assurance
First, we will ensure that you know what is SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It refers to the practice of optimizing a website and its content to improve its visibility and ranking in search engine results pages. The goal of SEO is to attract organic traffic from search engines and increase the website's visibility, this is why SEO is getting as one of the main aspects when QA'ing a site
Here's a suggested step-by-step guide to help you QA:
Page Titles and Meta Descriptions:
- Check that each page has a unique and descriptive title tag (usually displayed in search engine results) you can as well verify this in the HTML of the page in the head section.
- Ensure that meta descriptions are concise, relevant, and accurately describe the page's content, making some of the keywords match the content.
URL Structure:
- Verify that the URL structure is clean, readable, and contains relevant keywords, try to avoid the use of numbers or internal ID's
- Check for the proper use of dashes (-) to separate words in the URL. example: "www.mysite.com/This-is-a-subpage"
Headings Content
- Review the usage of headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.) and ensure they are properly structured and follow a hierarchical order.
- Check that the content includes relevant keywords and provides valuable information to users.
- Be aware that the content is organized, easy to read for users, and includes appropriate formatting
Keyword Usage
- Ensure that site keywords are naturally and strategically used into the page content.
- Check for proper keyword density, verify that keyword stuffing isn't in place.
- Verify the usage of keywords in headings, subheadings, and image alt tags.
Images and Multimedia
- Check image alt tags to ensure they are descriptive and contain relevant keywords. This can be done in the site, by selecting the item, click inspect, and check the "alt tag=" in the code (Please check example at the end of this post).
- Verify image sizes and compression for optimal page loading speed. There is a really usefull tool to check images sizes and optimization called: LightHouse inspector
- Ensure multimedia elements (videos, audio files, etc.) are properly embedded and functional.
